CT guided bone biopsy

What is a CT guided bone biopsy?

CT is the preferred modality to perform image-guided percutaneous bone biopsies. CT allows for excellent visualization of both the biopsy needle and the osseous lesions. An initial series of images obtained at the level of the lesion are used to plan and guide the needle approach to the lesion. Periodic imaging is obtained to confirm the needle path to the lesion. Images of the needle within the lesion are obtained to document the procedure. CT is excellent for the guidance of percutaneous biopsy of both primary and metastatic osseous lesions
