The diagnosis is established by epidemiologic exposure, serology, and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction for viral RNA. Treatment is supportive and includes rest, hydration, and acetaminophen. NSAIDs and aspirin use is controversial because these drugs have caused bleeding in patients with other Flaviviridae infections.
