What are some common causes of hypercalcemia?

Hyperparathyroidism and malignancy represent about 90% of all cases of hypercalcemia. Other etiologies include:

• Granulomatous diseases

• Immobilization

• Medications: excessive vitamin D, vitamin A, lithium, Tamoxifen, etc.

• Milk-alkali (or calcium alkali) syndrome

• Endocrine: thyrotoxicosis, etc.
