What is chondrocalcinosis?
Chondrocalcinosis refers to soft tissue calcification, usually within hyaline articular cartilage or fibrocartilage. Fibrocartilage is present in structures such as the menisci of the knee, the triangular fibrocartilage of the wrist, the labra of the acetabulum and glenoid, and the symphysis pubis.
Is chondrocalcinosis synonymous with CPPD?
No. Chondrocalcinosis may be seen in a variety of disorders including CPPD, hyperparathyroidism, hemochromatosis, and OA, as well as with advanced age.
