What is asplenia?
Asplenia is defined as congenital absence of the spleen and is associated with bilateral right-sidedness in patients with organ heterotaxy. Asplenia is associated with more severe, cyanotic cardiac defects than is polysplenia, a left-sided inferior vena cava, bilateral trilobed lungs, bilateral eparterial bronchi (with mainstem bronchi superior to pulmonary arteries), and a midline liver.
