What are additional considerations when stroke patients return for follow up?
Stroke follow up visits should address new neurologic symptoms, stroke risk factors, depression, and recovery.
New neurologic symptoms may represent stroke, TIA, or seizure.
Those with ongoing paralysis should be assessed for conditions that may adversely affect their recovery including depression, spasticity, shoulder subluxation or frozen shoulder, and post-stroke pain.
Complex regional pain syndrome is characterized by intermittent symptoms (cold feeling, purplish mottled skin, swelling) in the areas affected by the stroke.
