Rufinamide

What is Rufinamide

Rufinamide is a triazole derivative that is unrelated to currently marketed anticonvulsants.

Although rufinamide is only FDA-approved for use in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, clinical trial data indicate the drug may also be beneficial as adjunctive treatment of refractory partial seizures.

Rufinamide was FDA-approved in November 2008 with an orphan drug designation for the adjunctive treatment of seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in children 4 years and older and adults.

In February 2015, this indication was expanded to include children as young as 1 year of age.
