Prothrombin Complex Concentrate Human Brand Name– Kcentra
What is Prothrombin Complex Concentrate Human
Prothrombin complex concentrate Human (PCC) is prepared from human plasma and contains factors II, VII, IX and X, and antithrombotic proteins C and S.
The potency of PCC is defined by content of factor IX. PCC is FDA-approved for urgent reversal of vitamin K antagonist (VKA) therapy in patients with acute major bleeding or need for urgent surgery or invasive procedure.
According to the CHEST guidelines, PCC is preferred over fresh frozen plasma for the rapid reversal of anticoagulation in patients with VKA-associated major bleeding.
Both fatal and non-fatal arterial and venous thromboembolic events have been reported with PCC in clinical trials and during post marketing surveillance. PCC may not be suitable for patients with a thromboembolic event in the previous 3 months.
Kcentra was FDA approved in April 2013.
