Neomycin Polymyxin B Prednisolone Brand Name– Poly Pred
What is Neomycin Polymyxin B Prednisolone
Neomycin polymyxin B prednisolone are used together in an ophthalmic suspension to treat ocular inflammation where there is a risk of infection.
Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from cultures of Streptomyces fradiae. Polymyxin B is a polypeptide antibiotic derived from a strain of Bacillus polymyxa.
Both of these antibiotics affect primarily gram-negative, aerobic bacteria, but are also effective against Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-sensitive).
Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid antiinflammatory agent. Prolonged use of topical corticosteroids can lead to systemic absorption.
Poly-Pred® was approved by the FDA in May 1963.
