Can mexiletine be used in neuropathic pain
Yes. Mexiletine, an oral analogue of intravenous lidocaine, has shown some modest benefit in chronic neuropathic pain, but it still considered a second- or third-line treatment option. It is a class IB antiarrhythmic used in life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias; it should be used with caution in patients with preexisting conduction defects and is specifically contraindicated in second- and third-degree atrioventricular block.
