Benzoyl Peroxide Hydrocortisone

What is Benzoyl Peroxide Hydrocortisone

Benzoyl peroxide hydrocortisone is a topical acne product. Benzoyl peroxide exhibits antibacterial activity and has drying actions, sebostatic effects, and causes mild skin desquamation.

Benzoyl peroxide improves both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions. Hydrocortisone is a topical corticosteroid used for its antiinflammatory, vasoconstrictive, and antipruritic properties.

Prolonged use of topical corticosteroids can lead to systemic effects.

Benzoyl peroxide and hydrocortisone were originally marketed for use before 1962, which is when Congress passed the amended Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act requiring that the FDA establish both safety and efficacy for all subsequently approved drugs.
