What is the difference between a hallucination and an illusion?
Hallucinations are sensations (visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, or tactile) without stimuli and are contrasted with illusions that are misperceptions of actual stimuli (e.g., perceiving a shadow on the wall as a snake).
