Who could benefit from a retrievable IVC filter?
Patients who could benefit from a retrievable IVC filter are those who only need short-term protection from DVT. This might include trauma patients who cannot be anticoagulated acutely but are expected to recover, surgical patients with a short-term increased risk for PE, surgical patients who need to be off of their anticoagulation for a short term during the perioperative time frame, and patients with a temporary contraindication to anticoagulation.
