Where is VEGF located in the kidney?
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is produced by the glomerular podocytes and tubular epithelial cells in the kidney and bind to the VEGF receptors (a tyrosine kinase receptor) located in the mesangium, glomerular, and peritubular capillaries.
VEGF is involved in proliferation, differentiation, and survival of mesangial and endothelial cells, and plays a vital role in the maintenance of the structure and function of the glomerular filtration barrier.
