What radiographic maneuvers can be performed to show a subtle pneumothorax?

Expiratory chest radiography or contralateral decubitus chest radiography (i.e., left side down if looking for a right pneumothorax and vice versa) can often help reveal a small pneumothorax that may not be seen on standard inspiratory frontal chest radiography. Alternatively, cross-table lateral chest radiography with the patient in the supine position can also show a subtle pneumothorax.
