What drugs have recently been added to the list of medications used in the symptomatic treatment of fibromyalgia?
Although only pregabalin, milnacipran, and duloxetine have received a specific indication for use in the treatment of fibromyalgia, a number of others have recently been used in increasing volumes. These include centrally acting α 2 adrenergic agonists such as the muscle relaxant/analgesic tizanidine and the 5-HT3 antagonists such as ondansetron, granisetron, and tropisetron. Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) has been shown in a small double-blind study to be effective in fibromyalgia. It is a microglial modulator and has to be compounded.
