What donor type confers the best outcomes in regard to kidney graft survival?
Living donor kidney transplants have the best allograft survival, followed by deceased donor kidney transplants. Among deceased donor kidney transplants, those organs from a donor with a lower KDPI have greater longevity. To reiterate, it is estimated that a kidney with a KDPI of <20% will last 11.5 years, a kidney with a KDPI of 20% to 85% will last 9 years, and a kidney with a KDPI >85% will last 5.5 years.
