What is the utility of FDG PET in psoriasis?
FDG PET is useful to detect and quantify the spatial extent and inflammatory disease activity of psoriasis plaques in the skin, as well as to assess response to therapy. In addition, FDG PET is useful to detect and quantify unsuspected vascular and systemic sites of inflammation in patients with psoriasis. Patients with psoriasis generally have increased levels of FDG uptake in the aortic wall on PET compared to normal volunteers. Clinical research studies are currently ongoing to further elucidate the role of FDG PET in psoriasis.
