What is twiddlers syndrome?
Twiddler’s syndrome is an uncommon disorder that occurs when a patient causes malfunction of a transvenous pacemaker, AICD, or chest port by manipulating, or “twiddling,” the subcutaneously placed pacing generator pack or port.
This may be facilitated when the generator pack or chest port is situated in a large subcutaneous pocket or loose subcutaneous tissue, leading to dislodgment of the pacing leads or chest port catheter.
A chest radiograph is the key to diagnosis and typically shows twisting or coiling of the lead around the axis of the pacemaker and possible lead fracture, displacement, or migration.
