Treatment options for advanced CKD
Aside from renal replacement therapy and transplantation, what treatment options are available to patients with advanced CKD?
Although an individualized approach is essential, there are two main options:
• Comprehensive conservative care (CCC): a multidisciplinary approach using the principles of nephrology, palliative care (and hospice when necessary), to manage CKD without dialysis.
• Time-limited trial of dialysis: initiation of dialysis for the purpose of achieving predetermined goals within a specified timeframe.
