Treatment for the arrhythmias in Guillain Barre syndrome
What is the appropriate management for the arrhythmias seen in GBS.
Bradyarrhythmias leading to serious events such as atrioventricular block and asystole can be treated with atropine or pacemaker.
Sinus tachycardia is usually temporary and does not need treatment other than in the elderly with coronary artery disease.
Atrial and ventricular tachycardias are also often temporary and need treatment only in life-threatening situations.
These situations are best managed by ICU experts, but if beta-blockers are used, they must have a rapid onset and offset of action.
