Through what receptors does Ach signal?
Nicotinic ACh receptors (nAChRs)
located at the skeletal neuromuscular junction (NMJ), in autonomic ganglia, and in the brain. Modulation of brain nAChRs is involved in reward and addiction.
Muscarinic ACh receptors (mAChRs)
located in parasympathetic sites and in the brain. Modulation of brain mAChRs can affect sleep–wake states, memory, and attention and modify seizure thresholds.
