What is the significance of conduction block in peripheral neuropathy?
Conduction block occurs only in certain limited acquired settings of acute reversible ischemic injury, compression-induced demyelination, and acquired demyelinative neuropathies but not in hereditary neuropathies, with one major exception—hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsy (HNPP).
Clinically, conduction block is important because it implies a potentially reversible defect-causing weakness.
