Relapsing Polychondritis (RPC)
RPC is an uncommon episodic systemic disease characterized by recurrent inflammation and destruction of cartilaginous tissues.
Who is at risk for Relapsing Polychondritis?
Patients are predominantly Caucasian, with a slight female predominance. Persons of all ages can develop RPC with a peak in the fifth decade (40–60 years). The estimated prevalence is nine cases per million. There is an association with HLA-DR4, which some studies have shown is involved in the presentation of type II collagen epitopes.
