Physiologic sequelae of gastric operations

What are the physiologic sequelae of gastric operations?

Truncal vagotomy accelerates liquid emptying from the stomach but diminishes solid emptying. Truncal vagotomy diminishes pancreatic exocrine secretion and biliary secretion after a meal. A dumping syndrome may occur immediately or several hours after a meal. Dumping syndrome includes GI symptoms such as nausea or epigastric discomfort and systemic symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, or syncope. Alkaline reflux gastritis is the term for gastritis induced by reflux of pancreaticobiliary secretions into the remaining stomach. This causes nausea, pain, or vomiting.
