What are the pain sensitive structures in bones and joints?

The periosteum and all intraarticular components with the exception of cartilage are pain sensitive; articular cartilage lacks innervation and is not a pain-sensitive structure. The annulus fibrosus of the intervertebral discs has nociceptors, but the nucleus pulposus does not.
