Is peritoneal clearance equivalent to that provided by the kidneys?
Peritoneal clearance is not equivalent to that afforded by the kidneys. While PD clearance of small solutes is reasonable, that of larger molecular weight solutes and protein-bound toxins pales in comparison to what renal clearance provides. Thus the value of Kt provided by dialysis is inferior to a similar numerical value of Kt provided by the kidneys.
