Immunosuppressive therapies for CIDP
What immunosuppressive therapies are used in CIDP?
The most common treatments for CIDP are corticosteroids, PE therapy, and high-dose IVIG.
Randomized controlled studies have demonstrated efficacy in CIDP for all three therapies and comparable efficacy has been shown.
Retrospective studies have shown that one-fourth of patients who are refractory to the standard treatments (i.e., IVIG, PE, or steroids) respond to another immunosuppressant.
Other immunosuppressives considered for CIDP include cyclophosphamide, cyclosporine, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon-β, interferon-α, methotrexate, etanercept, rituximab, alemtuzumab, tacrolimus, and azathioprine.
