What is idiopathic hypercalciuria?

Idiopathic hypercalciuria is generally defined as a urine calcium excretion higher than 300 mg/day in a man or 250 mg/day in a woman, with normal serum calcium in the absence of any systemic disorder known to affect mineral metabolism, such as sarcoidosis or primary hyperparathyroidism.
