How to select the proper injection rate for an arteriogram?
The easiest way to select the proper rate is to give a test injection of contrast agent by hand to estimate the rate of flow.
The injection rate should approximate the intrinsic rate of flow of the vessel. Giving a test injection is always prudent to ensure that the catheter is in the appropriate location.
Accidental power injection into the subintimal space or a tiny branch vessel may occur if this recommendation is not followed.
