How to interpret radiology images on a tablet device?
Many radiology applications for image viewing are labeled “not for diagnostic interpretation.” However, there are FDA-approved applications for interpreting images on a mobile device “when no dedicated workstation is available.” Under the FDA, “a mobile application that displays radiological images for diagnosis transforms the mobile platform into a class II Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS).” These are subjected to regulatory oversight and considered regulated medical devices which must comply with device classifications associated with the transformed platforms.
