How is dynamic imaging useful in Ultrasound?
One of the unique advantages US provides is the ability to image dynamically, resulting in real-time functional information regarding certain pathologies, which may only be confirmed upon performing provocative movements during sonographic examination. Several circumstances in which dynamic evaluation is crucial include, but are not limited to: subacromial impingement, biceps subluxation, snapping iliopsoas tendon, differentiation of partial from complete tears of the Achilles tendon, UCL tears in the elbow, UCL tears in the thumb including evaluation for a Stener lesion, and impingement of hardware on tendons (i.e., evaluation of a fixation plate and screws in the wrist or ankle).
