How does insomnia in the pediatric population differ from that in adults?
In general, the causes of insomnia in children are numerous.
It can be related to a medical condition, pain, medication side effects, lack of a routine schedule, attention seeking, or a combination of the aforementioned.
In contrast to adult insomnia, the caregiver usually reports sleep issues, especially if they delay sleep onset or require prolonged intervention through the night, thereby contributing to insufficient sleep for the caregiver.
