What is the prevalence of accessory renal arteries in the general population?
Approximately 30% of people have accessory renal arteries, which is the most common clinically relevant renal vascular variant. Significant post-transplant complications may result if even a small vessel that supplies the ureter is accidentally sacrificed. Larger arteries that supply the renal pelvis or significant portions of renal parenchyma must be preserved, sometimes necessitating complicated reconstructive surgery.
