How are calculi removed during percutaneous treatment of the urinary tract?
Different devices can be used through the endoscope when access to the collecting system has been obtained. These include various stone baskets, which are three to eight wires arranged in a helical pattern. Forceps may be used to grab individual calculi. US and electrohydraulic lithotripters can also be used to pulverize calculi within the collecting system to facilitate removal.
