What are the historical clues of an organic versus a nonorganic etiology for joint pain?
Organic: Signs of systemic illness, including weight loss, fever, night sweats, rash, diarrhea.
Nonorganic: Isolated pain in an otherwise healthy child. May have history of depression or anxiety. Can occur in the setting of chronic disease, but with pain amplified above usual disease process. Often many missed days of school for pain.
