What is hippocampal sclerosis?

Hippocampal sclerosis is a disorder commonly associated with complex partial seizures of temporal origin. The term describes the pathology of the hippocampus that includes a loss of neurons and associated gliosis.

How is it diagnosed? 

MRI scans may demonstrate hippocampal sclerosis and volume loss of the hippocampal region.

Unilateral hippocampal sclerosis associated with intractable complex partial seizures is important to identify because it is a potentially curable syndrome with surgery
