What are genome wide association studies? 

Genome wide association studies consist of scanning DNA markers across the genome of many individuals in order to find the genetic variation associated with a particular disease.

These studies are thought to be valuable in finding the genetic variation that contributes to more common and generally complex diseases as opposed to Mendelian disorders.
