Genetic Epilepsies

What are genetic epilepsies

What are the genes described for epilepsy?

According to the 2010 ILAE Classification of Seizures and Epilepsy, epilepsy can be divided by etiology into genetic, structural/metabolic, or unknown.

Genetic epilepsies, previously known as idiopathic , like other types of epilepsies, may have seizures that are focal in onset, appear to be “generalized” in onset, or both. The list of genes associated with epilepsy is rapidly expanding.

Newer gene associations are frequently being described as our knowledge of genetic epilepsies advances with new research.
