Gamekeepers Thumb

What is gamekeepers thumb?

This refers to a tear of the UCL of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb. Although originally described in gamekeepers on large estates in the United Kingdom who would stress this joint by the repeated use of cervical dislocation to kill small animals, it is more commonly caused in this era by the use of ski poles. Gamekeeper’s thumb can generally be diagnosed on clinical grounds.
