Footballers Migraine

What is footballers migraine

Minor head trauma can sometimes trigger migraine attacks in migraineurs.

Matthews reported migraine with aura sometimes repeatedly triggered by heading the ball in soccer in four young males (including a 12-year-old) and a 20-year-old boxer after being hit in the head.

The most famous example occurred in American football in the first quarter of Super Bowl XXXII viewed by 800 million when migraineur Terrell Davis of the Broncos was kicked in the helmet and developed a migraine with visual aura.

He was taken out of the game and treated with his usual medication, DHE nasal spray. He returned headache free for the second half and had 20 carries for 90 yards, a Super Bowl record; three rushing touchdowns; and won the game’s MVP award.

Early treatment of migraine can get your patients back to school or work or even enable them to be a Super Bowl MVP.
