Do any primary cancer types benefit from prophylactic cranial irradiation?
Prophylactic cranial irradiation has been shown to decrease the incidence of brain metastases and lengthen overall survival in patients with small-cell lung cancer who have responded to initial treatment and have limited stage disease (confined to one hemithorax).
