Common medical conditions associated with hyperuricemia and gout:
- • Obesity: weight loss can improve hyperuricemia.
- • Alcohol abuse.
- • Renal insufficiency.
Other medical conditions associated with hyperuricemia and gout:
- • Selected drugs.
- • Hypothyroidism.
- • Lead toxicity (look for other signs/symptoms such as renal failure, cognitive impairment, neuropathy, anemia, among others).
- • Myeloproliferative disease, lymphoproliferative diseases, hemolytic anemias, polycythemia vera, sickle cell disease.
- • Hyperparathyroidism, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetes insipidus, Bartter’s syndrome.
- • Autosomal dominant medullary cystic kidney disease, lead nephropathy, familial juvenile hyperuricemic nephropathy.
- • Psoriasis.
