Diagnostic study to exclude renal colic as a cause of the flank pain
CT is the diagnostic modality of choice in evaluating patients who are suspected to have acute renal colic resulting from a stone. No intravenous or oral contrast administration is necessary. Nearly all stones larger than 2 to 3 mm are visible on CT.
