Because the rubella vaccine is a live attenuated virus, patients undergoing systemic immunosuppressive therapy should not receive this vaccine. Receiving it prior to the initiation of immunosuppression is recommended, and many experts suggest a period of 4 weeks post vaccination prior to initiation of immunosuppression.
