Causes of pneumoperitoneum in infants and children

What are other causes of pneumoperitoneum in infants and children?

The most common causes are surgery and instrumentation. Pneumoperitoneum can be found after laparotomy/open surgery, paracentesis, or resuscitation. Also, distal bowel obstruction from conditions such as Hirschsprung’s disease or meconium ileus and dissection of gas from pneumomediastinum, a ruptured ulcer, or Meckel’s diverticulum can lead to pneumoperitoneum.
