Can a person receive a kidney transplant without having been on dialysis

Can a person receive a kidney transplant without having been on dialysis?

Patients can be listed for kidney transplant when eGFR ≤ 20. Preemptive transplantation (i.e., prior to initiation of dialysis) has been shown to provide a patient and graft survival benefit over transplantation following the initiation of dialysis. In that regard, education and timely referral of a patient for kidney transplantation should be considered for those patients with progressive CKD who are appropriate candidates
