What is Bursitis
Bursitis is when the fluid-filled sac (bursa) that covers and protects a joint is swollen (inflamed). Bursitis is most common near joints, especially the knees, elbows, hips, and shoulders.
Follow these instructions at home:
- Take medicines only as told by your doctor.
- If you were prescribed an antibiotic medicine, finish it all even if you start to feel better.
- Rest
the affected area as told by your doctor.
- Keep the area raised up.
- Avoid doing things that make the pain worse.
- Apply
ice to the injured area:
- Place ice in a plastic bag.
- Place a towel between your skin and the bag.
- Leave the ice on for 20 minutes, 2–3 times a day.
- Use splints, braces, pads, or walking aids as told by your doctor.
- Keep all follow-up visits as told by your doctor. This is important.
Contact a doctor if:
- You have more pain with home care.
- You have a fever.
- You have chills.
