What is an anteroposterior X ray?
The standard plain abdominal radiograph is obtained with the patient in a recumbent position, lying on his or her back, and is termed a supine radiograph.
The x-ray tube is anterior (superior) to the patient, and the radiographic image capture device is posterior (inferior) to the patient.
The x-ray beam travels from anterior to the patient to be captured posterior to the patient.
By convention, this is termed an anteroposterior radiograph .
