Nebivolol and Valsartan Brand Name– BYVALSON

What is Nebivolol and Valsartan

Nebivolol and valsartan is an oral beta-blocker and angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) combination medication for the treatment of hypertension.

Nebivolol is a beta-1 selective (cardioselective) adrenergic antagonist.

Unlike propranolol, which nonspecifically blocks beta-1 and beta-2 adrenoreceptors, or atenolol, which has more affinity for the beta-1 adrenoreceptor but at higher doses loses its beta-1 specificity, nebivolol has an even higher affinity for the beta-1 adrenoreceptor at therapeutic doses.

Valsartan is a specific angiotensin II antagonist which selectively and competitively blocks the AT-1 receptor, which mediates the vasopressor and aldosterone effects of angiotensin II.

The combination product is indicated as initial therapy in patients not adequately controlled on valsartan 80 mg or nebivolol up to and including 10 mg and also can be substituted in patients already receiving 5 mg nebivolol and 80 mg valsartan.

Nebivolol and valsartan was FDA-approved in June 2016.
